Marine Design and Operations, Inc., established in 1981, is a group of multi-disciplinary professionals providing diversified technical and management consulting services to the marine industry. The professional staff and associates of Marine Design and Operations, Inc. possesses a wide range of formal education and training in areas including naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, management science, ship construction and transportation operations. This training is combined with extensive professional experience as consulting naval architects, ship's engineers and vessel technical and operations management.

Naval architecture and marine engineering/Owner's representation and supervision for new construction, repairs and major modification of vessels:

This category of work is our primary business and includes preliminary, contract and detailed vessel design and preparation of specifications for new construction, repairs or major modifications of many types of vessels and ship's machinery and electrical systems

Marine Design and Operations, Inc. has served as Owner's Representative and Supervisors for new construction, repairs and major conversions of vessels.

Marine Design and Operations, Inc. provides on-site program managers and inspectors, who act to direct the shipyard or repair contractor, with responsibility for meeting budget and delivery goals. Such projects have been carried out in various U.S. and foreign shipyards.

Machinery systems work includes innovative design and modification of medium and slow-speed diesel engines, steam turbines, shipboard and shore side cranes, fuel handling and treatment systems, hvac and energy conservation programs.

Vessel surveys and audio-gauging:

Marine Design and Operations, Inc. personnel regularly provide vessel .survey services for sale and purchase, damage and repair, on hire and valuation . Additionally, MDO Inc. regularly carries out surveys for service life extension and steel condition analysis and repair specifications. MDO is certified by ABS and other IACS classification societies to carry out thickness gauging including enhanced gauging requirements on vessels and vessel equipments.

Technical documentation:

Marine Design and Operations, Inc. is active in the development of general operations and safety manuals covering main and auxiliary machinery, cargo handling systems and other aspects of ship operations for today's increasingly sophisticated vessels technical documentation. MDO provides manuals for vessel operations including engineering operating manuals, deck operating manuals, automation manuals, safety manuals and security (ISPS- VSPs). We have also been involved recently in preparing specialized operating manuals for DP (dynamic positioning manuals) operations. In the past MDO has prepared Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) documentation for the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command and U.S. Coast Guard standards. These services have included full Provisioning Technical Documentation (PTD) and preparation of technical manuals to military and commercial requirements. In addition, MDO. Inc. has developed and published documentation to meet the requirements of ISO 9000 and IMO (ISM), and we were the controlled documentation manager for a U.S. flag LNG transportation company under an approved ISO 9002 system.

Vessel reflaggings:

Marine Design and Operations, Inc. is a leader in the reflagging of vessels into U.S. flag. Marine Design and Operations, Inc. personnel have participated with other U.S. marine industry representatives in working groups to identify specific Maritime Regulatory Reform issues and solutions. This reform effort resulted in the USCG/ABS Memorandum of Understanding concerning ABS inspection of U.S. flag vessels on behalf of the Coast Guard, and publishing of the U.S. Supplement to ABS Rules.

During the past twenty-five plus years, Marine Design and Operations, Inc. has successfully completed a variety of projects for both American and foreign companies concerning reflagging of vessels.
